Saffron (Crocus sativus) and Low mood / depression: evidence and sources

Strong evidence

RCTs and a meta-analysis report that saffron (stigma, and petal in one trial) improves symptoms of mild-to-moderate depression compared with placebo, and performed similarly to imipramine in a pilot trial. Trials are small and mostly from Iran.
