Protective effects of guarana (Paullinia cupana) against methotrexate-induced intestinal damage in mice
Preclinical
Abstract
Guarana (Paullinia cupana) was tested against methotrexate-induced intestinal damage in mice. Pre-administration of guarana restored antioxidant capacity (glutathione, SOD), inhibited IL-1beta and myeloperoxidase, and reduced pro-apoptotic Bax/caspase-9 expression, protecting intestinal tissue against oxidative stress and inflammation.
