Cnicus benedictus extract-loaded electrospun gelatin wound dressing for treating diabetic wounds: An in vitro and in vivo study
Abstract
Cnicus benedictus extract was loaded into electrospun gelatin scaffolds for diabetic wound healing. The dressings showed anti-inflammatory properties and prevented bacterial penetration in vitro; in a rat model of diabetic wounds, extract-loaded scaffolds significantly increased wound-size reduction, collagen deposition and epithelial thickness and upregulated VEGF and IGF expression, supporting the traditional wound-healing use of blessed thistle.
