This use is associated with the plant's anti-inflammatory action. Further evidence for that pharmacology:
Arctium minus crude extract presented anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects in a mouse acute gout attack model, supporting the traditional use of lesser burdock against rheumatic pain and inflammation.
Aqueous and ethanol extracts of Arctium minus leaves, used in Turkish folk medicine for rheumatic pain and fever, showed anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive and antioxidant activities.
