Contrasting a reference cranberry genome to a crop wild relative provides insights into adaptation, domestication, and breeding
Abstract
An updated chromosome-resolved reference genome of cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) was compared with a high-quality draft genome of the circumboreal wild relative Vaccinium oxycoccos, which forms interspecific hybrids with V. macrocarpon. The comparison identified environmental-response and plant-architecture genes relevant to adaptation, domestication and breeding.
