Nephroprotective effect of cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccos) in streptozocin-induced diabetic nephropathy in mice
Abstract
A hydroalcoholic extract of cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccos) was tested in streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy in mice. The extract improved serum and urine renal parameters, raised antioxidant enzymes (SOD, GSH) and lowered inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-6, TGF-beta1), demonstrating antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and nephroprotective effects.
