Nepeta cataria L. var. citriodora (Becker) increases penile erection in rats
Preclinical
Abstract
Catnip (Nepeta cataria), which induces pleasure in cats and humans, was fed to male rats and found to increase apomorphine-induced penile erection and slightly facilitate sexual behaviour, while decreasing general activity, an effect attributed to an action on dopaminergic systems.
