A systematic review and quality assessment of case reports of adverse events for borage (Borago officinalis), coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) and comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
Abstract
Borage, coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) and comfrey have long therapeutic histories but their safety is questioned due to unsaturated pyrrolizidine alkaloids. This systematic review assessed case reports of adverse events (notably hepatic veno-occlusive disease), informing the safe use and contraindications of coltsfoot.
