Variability of Phenolic Compound Accumulation and Antioxidant Activity in Wild Plants of Some Rumex Species (Polygonaceae)
Abstract
Seven Rumex species, including Rumex acetosa, were analysed for phenolic composition and antioxidant activity. The leaves were rich in flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol derivatives), catechins, proanthocyanidins and tannins, and several species - including sorrel relatives - showed high antioxidant activity by DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays.
