Lettuce contact allergy
Traditional / reference
Abstract
Lettuce (Lactuca) and its varieties are a well-known, rarely reported cause of contact allergy, mostly occupational, with sesquiterpene lactones implicated. The review presents data on lettuce contact allergy and recommends patch testing with freshly cut lettuce supplemented with Compositae mix — a relevant safety/contraindication consideration for Compositae-sensitised individuals using wild lettuce preparations.
