Abstract

This review covers medicinal plants used for prostate diseases such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome, whose desired pharmacological properties are anti-androgenic, anti-estrogenic, antiproliferative, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Alongside Serenoa repens, Pygeum africanum and Urtica dioica, Epilobium spp is highlighted as a promising plant for prostatic disease, supporting the traditional use of willowherb for prostate health.
