Pharmacological effects of Eleutherococcus senticosus on the neurological disorders
Abstract
Eleutherococcus senticosus is widely used in traditional medicine with anti-fatigue, sleep-improving and memory-enhancing effects. This review summarises its therapeutic effects on fatigue, depression, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and cerebral ischemia, and the underlying mechanisms (anti-oxidative damage, anti-inflammation, neurotransmitter modulation, improvement of neuronal growth and anti-apoptosis), supporting its development as a neuroprotective phytotherapy agent.
