Abstract
Crataegus laevigata, C. monogyna and related species (hawthorn) have been used to treat cardiovascular diseases. Clinical studies show standardized extracts are promising adjunctive agents for left ventricular dysfunction, consistently improving exercise tolerance and symptoms of mild to moderate heart failure, with preliminary evidence of improved left ventricular ejection fraction.
