Chelidonium majus leaves methanol extract and its chelidonine alkaloid ingredient reduce cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity in rats
Abstract
The kidney is a critical target for chronic cadmium toxicity. Methanol extract of Chelidonium majus leaves and its chelidonine alkaloid were evaluated in cadmium-intoxicated rats. Treatment shifted kidney weight, serum electrolytes, urinary volume, urea and creatinine towards normal values, with natriuretic and antidiuretic effects against cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity, supported by molecular and histological findings.
