Isolation and cytotoxic activities of undescribed iridoid and xanthone glycosides from Centaurium erythraea Rafn. (Gentianaceae)
Abstract
Several compounds, including secologanin derivatives and the xanthones erythraeaxanthone I and II, were isolated from the aerial parts of Centaurium erythraea and identified by NMR and mass spectrometry. Their cytotoxic potency was evaluated against human breast cancer (MCF-7, MDA-MB-453) and mouse fibroblast cell lines, with erythraeaxanthone II showing the most potent cytotoxic activity.
