Green tea effects on cognition, mood and human brain function: A systematic review

Abstract

A systematic review (PRISMA) of 21 studies, including 4 randomised controlled trials, on the effects of green tea (Camellia sinensis), l-theanine and epigallocatechin gallate on human neuropsychology, cognition and brain function. The reviewed studies showed green tea influences psychopathological symptoms (e.g. reduction of anxiety), cognition (benefits in memory and attention) and brain function; effects are attributed to the combined influence of caffeine and l-theanine rather than a single constituent.
