Abstract

Artemisia absinthium L. has a long history of use in treating liver inflammation and other diseases. Different batches of A. absinthium extracts possessed significant anti-inflammatory (inhibition of COX-2, 15-lipoxygenase and nitric oxide release in LPS-induced BV-2 cells) and antioxidant (DPPH, ABTS) activities. Chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A and isochlorogenic acid C were screened as the most promising active compounds and validated for their anti-inflammatory effects, providing quality markers for the herb.
