Scrophularia nodosa, Common Figwort

First Nature

Traditional / reference

Abstract

Botanical profile of common figwort noting it is sometimes confused with deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna), but figwort flowers are only about 8 mm across, roughly a third the size of deadly nightshade's, and figwort has a distinctly square stem cross-section whereas deadly nightshade has round stems. Anchors the figwort/deadly-nightshade confusion and the square-stem and flower-size distinguishing tests.
