Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) Identification

Totally Wild UK

Traditional / reference

Abstract

Foraging guide warning that a beginner could confuse a first-year evening primrose rosette with deadly foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), as they share a similar first-year tick list; foxglove leaves are hairier and much wider with a serrated margin, whereas evening primrose has narrower, less hairy leaves with a prominent white mid-vein and wavy margins. Anchors the evening-primrose/foxglove rosette confusion and the leaf distinguishing tests.
