Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board

Traditional / reference

Abstract

Noxious-weed profile of tansy ragwort: it is toxic and can sicken or kill cattle, horses, goats, pets and people, with highest risk after cutting or mixing into hay; it is distinguished from common tansy in that tansy ragwort has daisy-like flowers with about 13 ray petals and kale-like ruffled leaves, whereas common tansy has flat button-like flowers with no petals and fern-like leaves. Anchors the tansy-versus-ragwort confusion and the flower/leaf distinguishing test.
