Traditional / reference
Abstract
Foraging guide warning that yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is sometimes mistaken for poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), which is very toxic; yarrow is a woolly plant with soft feather-like leaves that smells of fresh pine, whereas mature poison hemlock is three to four times larger with a purple-spotted stem. Anchors the yarrow-versus-hemlock confusion and the feathery-leaf and scent versus purple-spotted-stem tests.
