Poisons leave no mushroom for error
Abstract
Royal Society of Chemistry article on poison fire coral (Podostroma cornu-damae): describes it as bright red and resembling marine pillar coral, containing trichothecene mycotoxins that inhibit protein synthesis, and states it has often been mistaken for Cordyceps sobolifera as well as two other edible mushrooms, Ganoderma lucidum and Cordyceps militaris, with poisonings resulting from mistaken identity rather than deliberate substitution. Anchors the confusion of poison fire coral with Cordyceps militaris and reishi.
