Traditional / reference

Abstract

University of California extension article on growing caraway (Carum carvi): describes its finely divided feathery foliage and umbels of tiny pink or white florets, and warns that there are plants with similar umbel flowers that are actually poisonous ('hemlock comes to mind'), cautioning growers against toxic look-alikes in caraway beds. Anchors caraway (Carum carvi) as an umbellifer whose feathery foliage and umbels can be confused with poison hemlock.
