Crocus By Other Names
Traditional / reference
Abstract
University extension article: Crocus and the Iridaceae genera have three stamens and one style, whereas Colchicum and the Colchicaceae genera have six stamens and three styles; colchicine is highly toxic. Independently corroborates the three-stamen/one-style versus six-stamen/three-style test separating true saffron crocus from autumn crocus.
