On the wonderful chickweed, and its poisonous lookalike
Abstract
Foraging guide contrasting common chickweed (Stellaria media) with its poisonous lookalike petty spurge (radium weed): chickweed has a single line of white hairs running up the stem to each joint and a stretchy string-like inner core and never exudes milky sap, whereas petty spurge bleeds a caustic white milk that burns the lips. Anchors the milky-latex snap test and the single-line-of-hairs stem feature.
