Abstract

Foraging guide to wild-garlic look-alikes: wild garlic has only one leaf on each stem while lily-of-the-valley has two; lords-and-ladies (Arum) leaves have basal 'tails' and contain needle-like calcium-oxalate crystals that pierce the mouth like paper cuts; and true garlic leaves are always smooth. Anchors the one-leaf-per-stalk and arrow-shaped-leaf distinguishing tests.
