Wild garlic: beware of mix-ups
Traditional / reference
Abstract
German risk-assessment authority advice on foraging wild garlic: if the characteristic garlic smell does not appear, the plant should be left where it is and hands washed immediately; mix-ups with toxic look-alikes such as autumn crocus and lily-of-the-valley repeatedly lead to serious harm. Anchors the crush-and-smell test.
