Abstract

Using 1H NMR-based metabolomics, the protoberberine alkaloids berberine and palmatine and the bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid berbamine were identified as the metabolites most responsible for the cytotoxic (anticancer) activity of Mahonia aquifolium stem-bark.
