Effect of Elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.) Extract Intake on Normalizing Testosterone Concentration in Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome Rat Model Through Regulation of 17beta-HSD, 5alpha-Reductase, and CYP19A1 Expression
Abstract
Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) extract powder (rich in rutin and fructose-leucine) increased total and free testosterone and sperm motility in an aged rat model of testosterone-deficiency syndrome by upregulating testosterone-synthesis enzymes and reducing degradation enzymes, suggesting use as a functional ingredient for testosterone deficiency.
