Abstract
This review compares for the first time the composition (micronutrients, macronutrients, organic acids, phenolic compounds and cyanogenic glycosides) of three subspecies of elderberry (Sambucus nigra) - the European, American and blue elderberry - highlighting the unique qualities of each and identifying gaps in available data.
