Botanical Description

Low, clump-forming fan-palm shrub (Arecaceae), usually with a creeping or short, often prostrate trunk. Leaves are fan-shaped (palmate) on long, spiny-edged stalks. Small, creamy-white flowers are borne in branched clusters among the leaves, followed by large, dark blue-black, olive-sized berries - the part used.[12]
