Abstract

Nepeta cataria (catnip), containing tannin and volatile oil, is described as aromatic, carminative, tonic, diaphoretic, refrigerant, emmenagogue, antiseptic and stimulant, and useful in infantile colic and hysteria. This pharmacognostic study details the leaf, stem and trichome anatomy and TLC/UV fingerprint of the herb.
