Evaluation of extracts and oils of tick-repellent plants from Sweden
Preclinical
Abstract
Leaves of Myrica gale, Rhododendron tomentosum (formerly Ledum palustre) and Artemisia absinthium were extracted and their essential oils tested for repellency against Ixodes ricinus tick nymphs. Rhododendron tomentosum oil at 10% showed 95% repellency, the strongest of the plants tested, supporting the traditional insect-repellent use of wild rosemary.
