Juniperus communis essential oil limits the biofilm formation of Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare on polystyrene in a temperature-dependent manner
Abstract
Juniperus communis essential oil was investigated against nontuberculous mycobacteria and their biofilm formation. The combination of the essential oil and increasing temperature synergistically reduced biofilm formation on a polystyrene surface, and a significant antibiofilm effect was found at subinhibitory concentrations, suggesting a potential role for juniper essential oil as an alternative disinfectant.
