Saffron essential oil ameliorates CUMS-induced depression-like behavior in mice via the MAPK-CREB1-BDNF signaling pathway
Abstract
Saffron (Crocus sativus) has a long history in the treatment of depression. In mice exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress, inhaled saffron essential oil improved depression-like behaviors, raised serum 5-HT, dopamine, BDNF and GABA, and ameliorated hippocampal neuronal damage, acting mainly through upregulation of the MAPK-CREB1-BDNF signaling pathway.
