Antioxidant Activity of Essential Oil From Carum carvi L. Cultivated in North-Eastern Romania
Abstract
Essential oil isolated from dried caraway (Carum carvi) fruits, of the carvone chemotype (carvone 48.5%, limonene 44.4%), showed significant in vitro antioxidant activity in DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging and reducing-power assays, suggesting potential as a natural alternative to conventional preservatives in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
