The Polypharmacological Effects of Cannabidiol
Abstract
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a major phytocannabinoid of Cannabis sativa that does not induce intoxication. This review integrates the mechanisms of action of CBD on around 56 molecular targets (enzymes, ion channels and metabotropic receptors) and pharmacological implications in animal models and human diseases such as epilepsy, pain, neuropsychiatric disorders, Alzheimer's disease and inflammatory diseases, illustrating the polypharmacological nature of this natural product.
