Borago officinalis L.: A Review on Extraction, Phytochemical, and Pharmacological Activities
Abstract
Borago officinalis L. (Boraginaceae) is used in traditional medicine for respiratory disorders, colds, influenza, diarrhea, cramps, inflammation, palpitation, hypertension and menopausal symptoms. Its antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity activities relate to its rich content of phenolic acids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, alkaloids and terpenes from leaves, flowers, seeds and roots. The review summarizes extraction, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicity.
