Evaluation of antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and gastroprotective properties of Rubus fruticosus L. fruit juice
Abstract
The juice of R. fruticosus (RFJ) fruits, containing mainly anthocyanins such as cyanidin derivatives, phenolic acids and flavonoids, showed significant antioxidant activity in DPPH, TEAC, FRAP, ORAC and beta-carotene bleaching assays. In vivo studies showed that RFJ significantly inhibits carrageenan-induced paw oedema (63-71%) in rats and possesses anti-inflammatory effects, and RFJ pretreatment was able to prevent the ethanol-induced ulcerogenic (gastroprotective) effect in rats.
