Rhodiola rosea L. as a putative botanical antidepressant
Meta-analysis / review
Abstract
Reviewing two randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trials and seven open-label studies, Rhodiola rosea rhizome extract and its constituent salidroside show a possible antidepressant action in adults via multi-target effects on neuroendocrine and neurotransmitter networks, with a favourable short-term safety profile.
