A new withanolide from Saponaria officinalis and its antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities
Preclinical
Abstract
A new withanolide and two known compounds (gracillin and 5-alpha-hydroxylaxogenin) were isolated from the aerial part of Saponaria officinalis. The new withanolide showed antimicrobial activity against several bacterial strains and significant cytotoxicity against HEp-2 and HeLa cancer cell lines.
